Chander’s work is rooted in the art of listening, attending what is often overlooked, unheard, or actively silenced.

Through travel and collected stories, he creates spaces where suppressed voices, endangered environments, and distorted histories can speak for themselves. With roots in the Netherlands, Suriname, India, and Indonesia, his ethnomusicological work mainly focuses on protecting vulnerable cultures within these regions, often Indigenous to the land and deeply affected by (post)colonialism.

Drawn to practices beyond performance, Chander approaches music and sound as a way of meaning-making. Instruments, voices, and  cycles of nature hold stories of history, resistance, and resilience. Deep listening, he believes, can open the dialogue to understanding; of each other and of the world around us.
